If you did not attend a school that provided at least 200 hours of training, provide proof of attending a combination of classes/training/apprenticeship that equals a minimum of 200 hours. See NBCAAM Information Document, page 3 for details.

2. Contact the proctoring service of your choice (see the website for a list of services). On the application, you must provide contact information and a valid email address for the proctor. All correspondence from NBCAAM will be sent through email.

3. Download and print the NBCAAM application form and fill out the form completely. Incomplete forms cannot be processed and will delay the procedure. NBCAAM_Application_Form

6. Within 21 days, you and the proctoring service will be notified by email when your test is ready. You need to make an appointment with the proctoring service for around a 5 hour time slot of computer time with internet access. Only the proctor will receive, by email, the user ID and password that will give you access to the testing area. You may not take anything into the testing area and will be asked to provide an official government form of identification with a picture (such as a driver’s license) before being allowed to take the test.

7. Within 21 days you will receive notification of your grade. A passing grade will result in you receiving a certificate suitable for framing, a wallet sized membership card, and the option to have your profile listed on the  NBCAAM website. In order to pass the examination, you must receive a 75% or higher on each individual section of the examination.

8. If you did not pass, then you have the option to retake the examination after waiting 1 month. If you failed only 1 or 2 sections of the examination, you can retake only those sections for a fee of $40 to retake 1 section and $80 to retake 2 sections. If you failed 3 or more sections, you must retake the full examination for a fee of $100. A maximum of 4 attempts is allowed. (Note: The fee to retake the examination is non-refundable in order to cover administrative costs.)
